A1 Registrar - an Instra Group Company
Australia's Premier Domain Registrar

*LOL*

How does someone become "Australia's Premier Domain Registrar" ?

Do you need to be the biggest webhosting company in the solar system with
military grade data centers on Mars ?

Subject: [DNS] Registrar Thoughts

I have been looking around for a couple of hours now, trying to figure
out where to move my .net.au domains.

My thoughts:

A1Registrar: Besides a crap website... how the hell can they even
justify charging that much for domains?!?! I also think their sub
domains are dodgy... .auz.net? what crap.

Melbourne.IT: Still a very slow website which is not fun to use. Very
stable company, but VERY expensive.

ConnectWest: Their website says nothing! No pricing, leads back to
iiNET... Do they want to do business?

TPP: Decent website... pricing not great... expensive .org/net/.com
domains. Faulty searching system - said skeeve.net.au was available
when it isn't.

Netregistry: Web hosting - Why would I register with a competitor?
Faulty searching system - said skeeve.net.au was available when it
isn't. I like the fact they only pass on the wholesale cost of .org.au
domains... that is a very good thing. History of spamming and being

PlanetDomain: Ok website. Nice feature to search multiple key words on
the gTLD's.. my search on .au domains kept on giving me -ERR- an error
I guess... Cheap .org.au which I like.

Enetica: After this mornings stuff up... there were no errors doing
searches. Needs a multi-search feature. Pricing is reasonable (except
..org.au). Nice simple website.

Namescout Corp: Nicest website, excellent pricing, fantastic domain
searching feature. But... Barbados?!?!?!

-----

Overall... some of these guys look dodgy, with some charging ridiculous
fees.
Without actually registering a domain, testing the redelegation
interface and the speed at which they do things... I cant make a firm
decision... Clickngo where are you!!!!

Anyway... I will firstly try Enetica, because even with their problems
this morning, they fixed that quickly, and I know Vic, and he has a
track record in the ISP game... If they fail... I guess I will chance
Namescout, since they seem to have their act together, even though they
are non .au. After that... the trusted old beast of Melbourne.IT looks
ok... the others all just don't look worthy of chancing my money with
them.

The only exception is .org.au domains... which I will probably house at
Namescout because of cost. I register a lot of these for Christian
organisations and it seems these guys could be of value.

AUDA: Get a clue with the password recovery for domains... especially
net.au domains... the 5 I got from .net.au did not match the letters I
got from connect.com.au... we will see which one works when I try to
transfer them.
