MELBOURNE IT AND AUDA HEADED TO ARBITRATION OVER FINANCING
 Melbourne IT and the auDA, the Australian dot-au agency, are headed
to arbitration over the appropriate contribution to auDA. Melbourne
IT has criticized the increased auDA budget and is reluctant to up
its funding.

A CLOSER LOOK AT DOT-INFO CHALLENGES
Newsbytes runs a story that examines the nearly 300 challenges
currently lodged with WIPO under the dot-info challenge process. The
examination found that the overwhelming number of challenges involve
obviously bogus trademark information.

With the surge in patriotic emotion in the United States in the wake
of the terrorist attacks, some analysts believe that interest in the
dot-us domain is likely to increase as organizations seek to label
themselves as American.

NOMINET ISSUES RULING ON FSA.CO.UK DOMAIN 
Nominet, the dot-uk registrar, has ruled against software firm
Findlay Steele in its dispute with the Financial Standards Authority
(which uses fsa.gov.uk) over the domain fsa.co.uk. Nominet noted that
a law firm inadvertently sent a confidential email to Findlay Steele,
suggesting confusion for Internet users. Somehow the law firm's
mistake now means that the company may lose its domain.

DOT-INFO DOMAINS NOW ACTIVE 
More than 50,000 dot-info domains were activated over the weekend.
Afilias, the dot-info registrar, says that it expects to activate
another 250,000 domains this week.

FURRYTAILS IN HAIRY MESS OVER DOMAIN NAME
Furrytails Ltd. of London, a U.K. based distributor of plush toys,
has again been told that it will not be handed the Furrytails.com
domain currently held by American Andrew Mitchell. Last January,
Furrytails Ltd. lost in a NAF UDRP hearing and this time decided
unsuccessfully to take its fight to a 3-member WIPO panel, based on
alleged new evidence that Mitchell had registered the domain name in
bad faith. Mitchell not only operates an identically named business,
but is also a former employee of the U.K. outfit.

WHEN A DOMAIN IS CLEARLY NOT CONFUSING 
AOL has lost its UDRP action to get the domain "f***Netscape.com"
transferred to the company. The WIPO panelist in the case notes that
"it is inconceivable that anyone looking at this Domain Name will
believe it has anything to do with a company of such high repute as
the Complainant."
