§Possibly, but first you'd need to precisely define the role of the trustees.
§
§What are these people expected to accomplish?

They make the policy decisions based on community input.

§What powers do they have?

They decide on who handles the operational duties.
They interface to the IANA to make sure the name
server delegations are properly entered.

§Why is having 8 trustees any better than having one?

Diversity, common sense, two heads are better than one,
stability, security, continuity, etc.

§
§In my opinion Robert is doing a very satisfactory job.
§

That sounds like you are referring to the staff operational
job, not the trusteeshp job. By definition, one person can
not do a satisfactory job of being a group.
