ICANN 49 Through Language Services? Eyes by Jessie Doherty

The first day in Singapore, I had the chance to visit the Singapore National Orchid Garden. While wandering in the lush greenness, inhaling the refreshing fragrance, I was totally enjoying my time there. Suddenly, a bunch of elementary school kids walked by, two by two, chatting and laughing happily on their way to the field trip site. Listening carefully I noticed that the kids, no older than 6 or 7 years old, of all skin colors, were communicating fluently, seamlessly and harmoniously in English, Mandarin or Malay. Everything seemed so natural to them, yet so amazing and incredible to me. We were told that Singapore is a multicultural and multilingual society, and that scene I saw said it all.

ICANN Registrar Contact Information Database (RADAR) Password Reset

ICANN has taken its registrar contact information database (RADAR) offline temporarily. This action was taken as a precautionary measure after it was learned that an unauthorized party viewed data in the system. ICANN has found no evidence of any unauthorized changes to the data in the system. Although the vulnerability has been corrected, RADAR will remain offline until a thorough review of the system is completed.

Some gTLDs Are A Bit More Luxurious Than Others

There are a number of different business models being employed by new gTLDs, but there are very few aimed at the elite. They?re charging a hefty premium with their target market being the luxury goods and services sector, along with individuals that consider themselves a bit luxurious... or posh!

Complexity as the Enemy of Security

Late last month, hackers allied with the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) compromised the Web site for the RSA Conference, the world?s largest computer security gathering. The attack, while unremarkable in many ways, illustrates the continued success of phishing attacks that spoof top executives within targeted organizations. It?s also a textbook example of how third-party content providers can be leveraged to break into high-profile Web sites.
