This has been up for some time (a few weeks). It is there to ensure that
the public knows when the system is down (if ever). They will then know
that it is not the registrar but rather the registry at fault (this will
also be used in the case of scheduled outages etc...).

I don't know any details but the new, large type message on
Ausregistry's
home page that went up today:
"Current Registry System Status:
ALL SYSTEMS ARE FUNCTIONAL"

Seems to indicate that they may have experienced some problems.
