What good is there to offer too many toys to kids that don't even know how
to play with them ?

I don't doubt your statistics. If a survey was done of any particular
industry/small business type within Australia I'm sure there would be
similar or lower statistics.

Perhaps I'm looking at it from a different perspective to you where the
businesses/users I'm dealing with already have exposure to the Internet
and are already involved and hence participation and penetration is
higher.

It could well be the innovators in the Internet industry need to inform
and educate. Raise awareness to those who are unaware of the Internet
and expound on the advantages of being involved.

To get back to the subject topic, to raise marketing potential I can see
some justification for increasing the number of 2LD's in the .au
namespace, but only if it is managed correctly. We all realise now I
hope there are two different aspects to the Internet, the original high
ideals of community benefit/knowledge sharing and the newer commercial
side. Both need to be addressed. I see geographical naming and 2LD's
as being for community benefit whilst other 2LD's may be used to benefit
the commercial.

Lets remember, the shorter the domain name the better. That has always
held true in the past and still does. If the short name is relevent,
more market share.
