BRISBANE IS NO BARCELONA
A WIPO arbitrator has rejected an ICANN UDRP claim by the
City of Brisbane for the brisbanecity.com domain.  Professor
Andrew Christie ruled that the City failed to demonstrate a
trademark interest in the name for the purposes of the UDRP.

WHILE ITS COURTS DEAL WITH THE FIRST DOT-PH DOMAIN DISPUTE
The Philippines is also grappling with its first domain name
dispute in the courts as the Philippine Long Distance
Company has launched an action over the pldt.com.ph domain.

US COMMERCE DEPT. SET TO DECIDE VERISIGN / ICANN DEAL
The US Department of Commerce (yes, Commerce not Congress)
is expected to decide today whether to approve the deal
between VeriSign and ICANN.  The controversial deal would
give VeriSign control over the global .com registry through
2007.  Meanwhile, ICANN today posted an official, updated
version of its draft budget on its site.  The move comes in
the wake of reported leaks of a earlier version of the
budget.
