I don't know about retirement, but I'm sure that I remember a Senior School
exam question asking me to find the arithmetic progression for this one:

                 $112.50pa       
 $110pa
        $106.25pa         $106.25pa
                                   $100pa

Perhaps they're using Net Present Values, adjusted for Economic forecasts!
