My proposal might not be perfect, but I doubt this is its major problem.
What characters can be registered in a business/company name that would pose
problems to the DNS?

I know from personal experience that the registries do not consider "I.S.H."
and "ISH" as far enough apart to allow them both to be registered. So full
stops could be disregarded.
